The thing is, this part is a forum, not a wiki. As we've got a whole sub-forum available for discussing theories, maybe it'd be better if people were to use separate threads for different theories, rather than putting everything into this one thread?
Well, I've considered something for the whole game. Perhaps Sabitsuki was dead the whole time. Maybe the Dying girls event meant that Sabi had died during birth along with her mother. She may have been exploring all the things that she wanted to experience in life. (School, parties, flower, the ocean, etc.) But there were forces that prevented her from experiencing things. (Kaibutsu.) During the Rust chapter, the forces disappear, allowing her to experience some terrible things. ( Bullying at school (Kaibutsu empty box), Fragility, (Taking damage when the red demons run into her and so forth) The ending when she's walking past all her "dreams", it could mean that she's being born again, and doesn't need to wonder about all the things in life any more. Just some drabble.
I am currently looking into the possibility of the disease Sabitsuki has.
I have a list
If you can add more symptoms, I'd be grateful.
Edit 1: So far I have the following on the list:
- Pale Skin
- Chronic pain of one sort, along with psychogenic pain
- Social withdrawal
- Prolonged/Easy Bleeding
- Strange Dreams
So far so good. Now to find the correlations.
"A possible evidence for this theory is the heart monitor that transports you underwater, near Oreko's location. The heart monitors… Maybe Oreko was also a patient in the hospital Sabitsuki was in before she was quarantined at her house."
-My friend who also plays .flow
I think that Sabitsuki is suffering Tuberculosis. I checked up a couple websites and it states some of Tyler Brogan's list of symptoms. "The industrial world could be where Sabitsuki grew up, at the same time the smoke could be the cause of her illness." -A theory from the industrial snow world page
(I don't know… Cancer also somewhat fits)
Also, tuberculosis is accompanied by mental disorders which explains Sabitsuki's bizarre dreams.
I still have to ask my parents about this who are doctors to make sure.
Many thanks to my friend, onioncake. :3

Theorized off Version .17
While I could speculate about what the effects and what the seemingly strange unrelated dream areas mean, (ex: Rave area.) I’m more interested in the underlying story.
We all have our own ideas on what the story could mean, but I’m sure we can all agree on this “The Protagonist is sick.” With many hospital scenes and so many themes of blood and death, could one girl create such traumatizing dreams for herself alone?
I think to myself, what relevance does the multiple endings have? Why collect empty effect boxes? What does this all have to do with her illness?
Then I realized, Sabitsuki might be the subject of chemical experimentation.
This theory starts with the doctor in the hospital (the room with the arrow pointing to it.) With all the hospital references and illness in the game, he is the only doctor to be found. When you first meet him he’s fiddling about at his desk, seeming happy. This is the only character in the game that when you try to kill with the iron rod, he tries to run away and becomes afraid of you. Most NPC either die instantly or cannot be killed. “What makes this guy so special? Does he have a reason to be afraid? Perhaps he’s riddled with guilt.” You can kill him while the nurse does nothing but watch in horror, as only his glasses will remain on the floor. If you visit the Prison area, you can make out the silhouette of Sabitsuki in one of the cells along with other kids in other cells, perhaps being detained for experimentation.
With all the Rust (a symbol of death and decay,) that lines the hospital, all the patients wander dying or lay dead. Used as experiments, they are only seen as meat (hooks on chain lines in back of hospital) The black haired girl may have been Sabitsuki’s only friend through it all as she was the only other person to have a hospital bed; Even she however had succumb to the illness and lay dead in the wandering limbo where all the other souls of the experiments wander.
So what about the empty boxes?
Within her dreams, she’s able to scrape together the truth.
1) The dead girl on the hospital wall could symbolize that there was something wrong on the inside of Sabitsuki
2) The mouth in the school could symbolize the voice of truth in what has happened
3) Sabitsuki in the tank. Never a more vivid image of experimentation.
The True Ending?
With all the red demons running around representing the disease, Sabitsuki is confronted with her infected form and willfully defeats it from within her own mind.
As the game ends and the maid comes to collect the experiment (by force) Sabitsuki Smiles because she now knows the truth and tries to fight back to no avail.
An experiment is worth nothing if it is dead…
So I think that Sabitsuki was in or associated with some sort of gang, there is plenty of evidence in the game such as the Steel Pipe, Handgun, and Black Hoodie effects. At the roof of Corrupted School you get the Tattoo effect from a delinquent-looking person, and near the Corrupted School there is a House with two npc's in it. They appear to be brother and sister, and the girl hides behind her brother but pokes her head out every so often, she stops poking out her head when you use the Steel Pipe effect, if you interact with them using the Steel Pipe, they don't die but instead get very frightened. There are also a few dark alleyways in the game, if you walk into them it leads you to an area with lots of shady characters wearing black outfits.
I could never really make the pieces fit, but I did have a few theories running through my head while playing the game.
Like the ghost girl who gives you the watering can. At first I thought she was wearing a crown, but now I think she's actually wearing a nurses hat or something of the sort. My theory was that she was possibly one of the nurses who attended Sabitsuki when she was sick, and, maybe, was nicer to her than the other nurses? I'd like to think that the reason she gives a watering can to Sabi is that, when Sabitsuki was bored in the hospital, she would maybe let Sabi come and help her tend the garden with her. And then, somehow, she died.
Or maybe she was just some random girl who liked to water flowers. I don't know.
I also always thought that Oreko(the little girl with the diver helmet on her head) was some sort of imaginary friend to Sabi, hence why she doesn't have a face. Perhaps Sabitsuki was facinated by the ocean? And, created a manifestion of this to be her friend while in the hospital. Or, my other theory for Oreko is that she was an online friend of Sabitsuki's(once again, why she doesn't have a face) given physical form in Sabi's dreams.
That doesn't really explain why Oreko was working on some sort of large machine, but whatever.
And then there's Smile.(The boy in the slums area with his little sister-he also appears in the school, and smiles if you try to hit him with your pipe.)
Everyone has theories about Smile, ever since he was added in.
My theory is that he was (possibly) some sort of friend to Sabitsuki, and that, when he "kills" you during the one event (if you're not Rust, that is), that it is supposed to represent more than just that. Like, as they say, a "social murder". Maybe after Sabi got sicker, he abandoned her, or maybe he betrayed her in some way. Also, if you use that theory, then Rust killing Smile in the Corrupted School event is basically Sabi's revenge for whatever he did to her.
Oh, yeah, and Rust(the darker(?) version of Sabi, with more fleshed out features. She can't use effects and the little red demons hurt her.). I had a theory about it too.
I always thought that Rust wasn't an actual representation of the disease, but instead, a representation of how the disease was affecting Sabitsuki's mind.(I always thought the little red demons represented the disease more-and that would go along with this theory since they hurt Rust; The disease hurts Sabi's state of mind. Also, once again with the Smile theory, her killing Smile could represent what she felt like she wanted to do to him in her mind.)
Well, that's pretty much all I got so far. Maybe it makes sense, maybe it doesn't.
Here's a simple idea:
Sabutsuki is not human, she's a robot.
If you think she's a robot, then the whole theme of 'rust' makes a lot more sense (the 'machine' effect also makes a bit more sense).
From here I can think of two subtheories, I'll start with my preferred one first:
1-She's a maverick robot a lá Bladerunner's replicants.
When the game starts, there's a glitching sound that's made. This is the result of some of the protective measures of her programming breaking down (because she is quite literally breaking down and rusting).
When she logs onto her computer—that's exactly what happens. But, coming from the disjointed non-human perspective of an android, it seems literary and nonlinear to us.
She has locked herself in because she's being pursued by the authorities, the end scene are the other authorities catching up to her.
2-She's an abandoned robot.
She used to be a servant of a human, but s/he has died since then (thus the hospital scenes (the school scenes are memories of her following her previous human master)). The reason she stays in all the time is because she's following orders from her human master that she has been following mindlessly since s/he died—not knowing what death actually entails.
When she logs onto the computer, she is revisiting previous memories in a process of memory consolidation that is foreign to us humans—but creates the images that she sees.
Near the end game, she proceeds to let herself get offed because part of her programming dictates this—abandoned robots must be recycled.
"Being places in the Famicom World, Sabitsuki may be thinking of happier days where she may have dressed up as a witch and imagine zooming around on her broom."
THAT or, she might have been a studio Ghibli fan. I was going to post a Kiki/Sabitsuki comparison photo but I have low karma or whatever.
No fancy theories as of yet since I just started the game haha.
